I recently changed my 3 piece rod building bench to a one piece 15 foot rod building bench. In my prior arrangement, I had ball bearing roller stands between each table section. This allowed me to roll my power wrapper back and forth on my rod bench, while I remained in one location on the bench. i.e. I stayed put and rolled the rod past me as I worked on the rod.
With the new one piece bench, I no longer had the ball bearing supports. The first time I went to use the wrapper, I found it inconvenient to slide the wrapper up and down the bench, and I really didn't want to roll up and down the rod, taking my tools with me. So, to take a lesson from the builders of the Pyramids in Egypt who used logs to roll gigantic stone blocks up inclined ramps to construct these large stone objects - I picked up a couple of scrap cut off sections of solid glass rod blanks. I slipped one under each third of the power wrapper bed and now the power wrapper glides effortlessly past my work station on this centuries old - simple is better - roller. Food for thought. Things don't have to be expensive or complicated to serve a good purpose and work very well. Roger Re: Old idea can do very well.

Torin,
Of course they built them, but they still used roller logs to get the blocks to the top!! Roger Re: Old idea can do very well.
