Painting under guide location?

Unsure of what this title of this should be.

After some practice wraps with light thread on a black surface i have found the common problem that has been discussed many times on this board "dark background+light thread=changing of thread color" so my question is what is the easiest way to paint the 1' or 1/2 inch location on the blank where the guide wraps will be? i also had this problem when practicing a Tiger wrap with a black and white base wrap, the black apeared to bleed into the white but then i later realized the dark blank was affecting the white color.

I understand that i can spray paint a blank and tape everything else off but is there a paint on method to achieve this same outcome? my grandfather was an autobody man so he has all the materials to tape off the blank but im hoping to "brush on" or hand paint the blank white to brighten and hopefully achieve the original color of the threads.

Thank you for your help

I'm sure you could paint it by hand if you wanted to. Do a search for painting blanks. It will tell you all you need to know about what kinds of paint to use.

I myself would prefer painting with spray paint. (my opinion only) I would think you have a better chance of getting a lighter more even coverage.

I use masking tape and then cover the rest of the area I don't want painted with Suran wrap. Very easy to do and cleans up easy too.

Yes using can you have to mask off a large area. painters tape well sealed in area to be painted. Light coats. Will turn out ok. Make sure that you put a coat of cp on paint so tag pull thru doesn't pull paint off. I now have an air brush and only have to mask off an extra inch cause to cone of spray is smaller. Works good. again cp on paint before wrapping.. Light colors will stay true

Thank you Mike and Bill.
White krylon spray paint correct? then a final coat of CP.
Last night I tried wrapping size A white thread as a base but after reading many back posts i should have used larger size D white to get it to stay true. The dark blank showed through the white and it looked terrible.

Thanks for the help!
