Hello all, i've just been building rods the last 14 months with my now 12 yrd son, we love it and by the way nice book Tom.

i have been using search feature for all qurstions with results up till now.

question is how can one smooth out a finish that has lent and finger prints on it? only thing i have found is Tom's comment on block sand the rap, regarding a tigerwrap?

if i can sand out the finish and reapply a new coat, what steps do i take?

Hi Tim,

You pretty much understand the process. Sand as smoothly as you can, taking care not to get into the thread wraps. Then you want to clean away the sanding dust, taking care to remove any grit that may have gotten embedded in the finish.. Some people use denatured alcohol, but I think this can lead to contamination issues so I just use water. Let it dry thoroughly and apply another coat of finish as per normal.

It is much like finishing wood.

You can block sand and re-coat. Do it wet and DONT let the sanding "grit/dust" dry. Grab 400gr wet/dry paper, a flat stick and sand away finish with 600gr or finer. You may not even need to sand if the fingerprint is not too deep and the epoxy has not cured longer than 24 hours.

Thanks fellas, its only the first coat so, I know im gonna have to be carefull. This all started because i was trying to clean up bleed off from F.C. color preserver. Im mad at myself for completely not cleaning off the bleed off first. I figured I would after i applied the first finish coat, lesson learned.

so I want to save this build, its my first MHX rod build and first TigerWrap as well

So, use 400 gritt paper and water wet sand it?

Works for me Tony, but if you only have one coat on, you most likely dont have much to sand! I'd do it LIGHTLY and as little as possible and re-coat.
