I can't stand it any more. I use Snake brand guides and I love them. No work on them guide feet. I have to use Hopkins (because of the price) for the stripper. I have to work on them but can't seem to get it right. They are very pointed and they should be blunt and rounded. When I get one side wrapped the other leg comes off the blank no matter how hard I tape it down. I get this nasty crease where the thead starts up on the foot. I will get it right, somehow. I alway's do eventually. My least vavorite part of the build. Shaping guides, Ug! Re: shaping guide feet

Tom,
I assume that you are using the Hopkins stripper guide as shown:? [www.cabelas.com] You are indicating that after wrapping one guide foot, that the other foot is coming up off the guide? If this is the case, it is a simple matter to bend one, the other, or both feet down a bit so that the guide foot sits absolutely flat on a pefectly flat surface. I always check for any double footed guides to meet this criteria. I just use a single pair, or two pairs of pliars to bend one, the other or both ends of the guide up or down to achieve a perfectly flat surface. After insuring that both feet sit absolutely flat on a flat surface, I then use a vertical belt sander - with 220 grit paper on it to make sure that the ends of the guide foot come to a pretty thin point. The point doesn't necessarily have to be narrow, but it should be thin so it allows the guide foot thread to easily climb the guide foot. If necessary, depending on the particular guide, manufacture, and construction, I may have to taper the guide foot all the way from the tip of the foot to the ring, if I deem that the overall thickness of the foot does not give me a nice smooth taper from rod blank to guide ring. Take care and enjoy Roger Re: shaping guide feet

If one leg is lifting when you wrap the other, the feet are not sitting flat on the blank. Try to bend them a little to get both feet absolutely flat on the blank and you problem should be solved. Also make sure you're not wrapping too far up the leg - this can causing lifting of the other foot as well.
