Being a Musky fisherman, we are surely a crazy bunch! and I build and own several musky rods, mostly with zirconium rings and I have never seen guide wear ever, with every one of my own rods being slow spiral wrapped. Like Billy suggested, we may make 100 - 200 casts a day on a slow catching day. More you catch = less casting!
Just me Roger....I dont think guide wear would be "slamming" the maker. I do think it may help others that build heavier rods by saving them the same hassle you have with re-wrapping guides and having a dis-satisfied customer that may never return due to something that was beyond your control. That is what forum's like this one is for: to learn from one another DR Re: Spiral wrapped rod wearing braided line??

I'd guess he doesn't make 100 casts a > day. Billy - That would work out to a cast every 36 seconds instead of 3.6. Though I agree, that's still a TON of casting and no time for anything else. Some of the muskie guys use sw reels geared to 45+ inches per turn to really burn their spinners along, so he could be well into the hundreds with the number of casts per day - depending on what kind of lure he throws with this rod. DR - live by the internet, die by the internet. IT doesn't take much to have a hoard of people get down on a product. Look at the guy freezing D2. While that got cleared up, how many people do you think read that thread one time and never followed back up on it, and they now think D2 is an awful finish? You gotta be really careful when sayign anythign negative abotu a product, as it could have a long lasting effect even though you might be the one at fault.
MAth was my strong subject, that's a pretty non-excusable error to make, lol. 45" per turnisn't close to a fish headed deep at 20 miles per hour @ 20#'s of drag. My original point was spiral wrap isn't the root of the problem. We need a cast counter button to get an accurate count. lol, I know when I catch fish and count, it goes, 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 20 - lol -I've NEVEr caught 3 fish in my life, only 2 or 4 Re: Spiral wrapped rod wearing braided line??

I hear ya Billy, but there's never anything wrong with the real truth and a little common sense.

It might have something to do with the "Fish of a thousand casts" saying. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
