Question about decal application

I have two questions about decal application. I am using the stick and peel decals not waterslide decals.
1) If I am putting decals on an unsanded blank and it has the spiral ridges on the area of the blank I want to put the decal will it work out or am I going to get an air bubble issue? Do I need to put down a layer of wrapping finish? 2) I wrapped about a 2" area above the grip with Madiera and I want to put a decal over the thread. I put on a couple of layers of color preserver and in the past I put on a layer of wrapping finish then the decal then another layer of finish. Can decals be put on the thread coated with just color preserver and then put on wrapping finish? Re: Question about decal application

1. Lay down a coat of finish - better safe than sorry
2. If you want a decal over thread, read #1 DR Re: Question about decal application

It is imperative to lay down a finish coat first at least in the area that you are applying the decal. After the decal is applied, lay down the final coat of finish. This should cover the complete decal and "hide" the edges so as not to be seen.
