PermaGloss Storage Question

I did a search about PG and read Tom's suggestion for storing it in an air tight can with a screw threaded into the bottom for access without letting air / moisture get into it so that the unused portion hardens.

I would guess that this has been tried, but if not, would it work to take the same approach but to instead drill a hole in the PG bottle cap, plug it with a screw and store it cap down in the refrigerator? (Probably best to put it in an old cup, etc. in case it leaks so you don't have a PermaGlossed refrigerator!)

Use two bottles of Perma Gloss to completely fill the can - insert coarse threaded wood or sheet metal screw - fill can to top - seal tightly - roll can so screw is on top - will not leak the first time it is filled if the screw is up - after about an hour set can upright - when you want to remove product loosen screw till drops come out - catch in stainless cut or jigger - retighten screw - no need to place in refrigerator - use as often as needed.

Thanks Bill. I'll skip the refrigerating.

I was hoping someone had maybe tried the "screw through the bottle cap" idea. If it works, it would be a good alternative for those of us that only build a few rods a year.

Dan,

i did ask about the screw in cap months back .. but dont think it has been tried out yet .. (it's hard for me to get my hands on permagloss, so i am reluctant to try it on mine..)

i think that unless the cap is fairly thick, the screw-in-cap wouldnt be entirely air-tight

A few weeks ago someone (can't remember who) posted an alternative method...I think using the PG bottle itself. For some reason I can't find that thread. I do remember thinking it was a wonderful idea.

EDIT: Found it. DR said that the metal Testors bottle caps fit the PG bottles. No you can't dispense it drop by drop, but a "splash" of PG goes a long way.
