Blank Question RDR70

I saw in another post that someone was asking about using a Baston RDR70M as a crankbait rod. I was looking into building a similar rod mainly for crankbaits and was hoping anyone could give me their insight on this blank - and it's action for this presentation. For the money this looks like a steal

Yeah, its a nice blank....definately a sleeper in the Batson lineup. It is a blended blank...glass in the tip, graphite butt section. It can throw mid to deep cranks...I wouldnt use it for the small 1/4 oz. guys. Has a modl action (havent CCS'd it yet, can't give you numbers) VERY good for the money. I have a few in the shop now... I'll try to get some more info later...ccs etc.

Do you think the RDR70L would compliment the Medium blank to throw light crankbaits in 1/4 ounce range. So the RDR70M is more for 1/2 - 5/8. Does it have the soft slower action?

Have you considered the CB70M? It is much lighter and better suited, IMHO, for throwing the lighter crankbaits you are planning on using.

What kind of action does the CB70M impart. An do you think the Glass/Graphite action will be better suited for the cranks. The CB70M seems really light.

It is definitely light. If you are throwing cranks in the 1/4 ounce range it will do that well. I wouldn't throw anything much heavier than 1/2 or so if you are going to be ripping through the weeds. If you are looking for something a little heavier I would lean towards the 70 MH. It will still cast 1/4 ounce pretty well but has a little more backbone.
As far as the blend vs. graphite debate. I personally lean towards graphite because of weight and at the end of the day if I can save a few tenths of an ounce on a rod that I am going to cast alot, I will.
Once again just my opinion,.

Just completed building 2 RX7 Rainshadows on the CB80MH and they weighed in at 4.5 ounces each. Cant beat that for an 8 footer.

The RDR70L and 76L may be a bit light on the tip for casting anything over 1/4 ounce if you can believe that. I like the idea of using the 70M for a light cranker thanks for the heads up.
