If I put color preserver on guide wraps will this really compromise the strength and durability of my guides. I like using Madiera thread and I know it needs CP. I put Madiera on a 5wt flyrod and on a couple of offshore trolling rods - Am I going to regret this long term. I know a Spey rod builder who absolutely will not put CP on the guides and I know his rods are solid. I was just wondering what experiences others have had. I sure like the colors of madiera and if I use a nylon thread I like keeping the colors- more color presever. I have two 12wt flyrods in the works and I want to use Madiera on the guide wraps. I am open for some input. Will Dornan Jackson Hole, WY Re: Color Preserver on Guide Wraps

Will,
You have opened up a hot topic. Some use and some don't. A search will bring up tons of info. Check out Solway Custom Components, a sponsor on the left side. Then check out his Blog sight. He has an interesting blog regarding CP. He is currently using a fly rod that has nothing more than CP on the guides. He has used for over 2 years. steve [www.solwaycustomcomponents.com] Re: Color Preserver on Guide Wraps

Will.
I use CP on all my guides on every build. I've never had an issue, mind you I'm not building the kind of rods you are. Mine are all fly rods from 2wt to 10 wt. if that's any help. I too use madeira thread on many builds. Harold Re: Color Preserver on Guide Wraps

No, it will not compromise the strength nor durability of the guide wraps. The thread holds the guides in place, the epoxy protects the threads. This is the case whether you use CP or not.
