I don't see how I could do a Forhan locking wrap on a Pac-Bay Minima guide.
Would the guide be more secure if I put a few thread wraps past the ring or should I just wrap the foot and be done with it. This will be a 5wt rod. Thanks Jeff Miller Re: Forhan locking wrap Minima guide

It was the way it was done before the Forhan Wrap Bill - willierods.com Re: Forhan locking wrap Minima guide

I just did a UL spinning rod, using sz4 Minima fly guides. I was only able to get 2 locking wraps on each one, followed by 3 blocking wraps. They are plenty secure. I had to make sure to end the regular wrap one revolution short of the guide leg, so that I could fit the first locking wrap in that space. MY sequence was actually: regular wrap--1 blocking wrap--2 locking wraps---3 blocking wraps. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/23/2010 12:53AM by George Forster. Re: Forhan locking wrap Minima guide

What Rich arrived at was the most secure sequence possible. But you can only do what you have room to do. If you must change the sequence or the number of blocking and locking wraps a bit, rest assured it's still going to be a lot more secure than if you didn't do anything at all. At the very least, if I couldn't put a locking wrap on it, I'd add a few turns of threads on the back side of the guide leg. As Bill said, that's how most of us used to do it and even that adds some additional security.
