Pac Bay Minima guides

I have been using pac bay minima guides for the last year on many of the rod builds.

I really have not had any issues at all with these guides and my clients as well as myself find that they give excellent service with essentially 0 issues.

Have any of the other users of these guides have any issues at all with respect to durability or any other type of issues.

I have found that they just give excellent service with minimal cost along with the larger ring size that allows many rods to use one size smaller guide than is the norm for many other styles.

Thanks for any other updates.

Roger

No issues for me. I no longer use ceramic guides on anything less than very heavy saltwater rods.

Do any of the board's sponsers carry these? I've looked around and the only place I can find that has them is a non-sponser and they only carry them down to a size 6 - or is that as small as they are made?

I've special ordered some through Mudhole, but I've also recently noticed that Schneiders has them on their website under "hot specials". I'm sure many of the sponsors would be glad to order them for you. They're available in as small as a size 4.

I've only used them on flyrods thus far, and I too was wondering how well they're currently holding up for use on spinning and casting rods. I was also wondering if anyone has any experience with the model MV minima tips. To date, I have always wound a guide on as a top for my flyrods, but I'd like to use a "sleeved" tip for spinning and casting rods.

How are they holding up to braid.

Schneiders and Bingham both stock them in pretty good quantities.

Bill,
For my clients as well as myself; we have seen a lot of use on these guides by braided line and thus far - no issues.

Take care
Roger

Looking at Pac Bay's catalog, the taller Model "M" spinning guides (that would approximate the height of Fugi's "Y" frame Concept guides) are listed as being for UL to L rods, with the shorter Model SV guides listed for L to M rods. (A 25mm M guide measures 55mm tall and the SV's measure 41.5mm.)

I like the height of the M's and would like to use them for the reduction guides on the M power bass and walleye rod that I'm building. The rod will be used with 8lb mono and/or 10 lb braid, and will have a reel with a 1.9" dia spool. Will the M's be ok on this rod, or will there be flexing problems, etc?

Thanks.

Dan

P.S. Roger and Tom - have you been using the Minima 3 or Minima 4 guides?

The M series Minima guides work great on a spinning rod. I had my float n fly rod on display at the show, it had the M series guides for transition guides and #4 fly guides for running guides, I believe I used 20, 10, 6, M guides for the transition. Tom had a rod in the case that looked like it may have had the exact same setup, or at least very close.

Thanks Mike!

Do you use the Minima 3 or 4 series guides? With the "double swaged rings" the 4 series looks a bit stronger, though it's also about twice as expensive.

Also, what tip tops do you use with these guides on your rods?
