I'm a newbie and this might be a dumb question but can u turn an old casting rod into a spinning rod. I have an old casting rod that has the cork all messed up, but i really love the action and was wondering if i could turn it into a spinning rod or it's not worth the hassle. Any advise welcomed and thanks in advance.

Yes you can. If the seat doesn't have a trigger on it, then it's a simple matter to just rewrap a few guides. Do be aware that unless you rebuild the handle you'll find that the rear grip effectively becomes a little longer when used as a spinning rod because of where you hold the seat, casting versus spinning.

I just simply "cut" the trigger off of one i had , sanded it smooth , turned it upside down and stuck a spinning reel on it for the wife, she likes it, that was all the moding i did to it.

Actually, with respect to the guides, you can get by with just changing the first and 2nd guide on many casting rods to change them to a spinning rod. You just need the taller first guide to get better line flow from the reel.

Since you like the blanks action, why not just do a complete rebuild, split grip a set of micros.

Thanks to everyone for the quick response, and I think I'll go with the complete rebuild. Is there any easy way to remove the reel seat. Off the subject I just want to say that this is a great site and I'm so glad I came upon it, cuz I have learned so much by just reading some of the posts.

The easy way to remove the seat is to cut it down its side and put a screw driver and pry it off
