I have recently purchased a factory built Sage SP from a dealer here in Australia, I have discovered that the spine on the tip section is a 90 degrees to the butt section, on raising this with the dealer he assures that it dose not matter in carbon fibre blanks because they have no spine. Would appreciate any assistance from you guys, thanking you

They have a spine effect, which although not a physical thing, is an effect that is created by manufacturing anomolies.

Sage, like most commercial rod companies, builds their rods on the straightest axis rather than on or opposite the effective spine. Most customers have no idea what a spine effect is - but they know what straight is. If they pick one up and sight down it, with the guides either up or down (the usual position for fishermen to sight down their rods) they will see a straight axis and will be happy.

Many thanks for your help, I had read the FAQ page but was not sure it refered to carbon fibre, I was of the opinion that because the blank was wraped in the fanufacturing process that the spine did not apply, some people have attempted to convence me that some manufacturers actually incorporate a thread of Ti. to create the spine, do you know if this is correct, many thanks again

Not to my knowledge. The spine is almost never a physical thing, but the result of manufacturing processes. A warp in the tube or blank will also contribute to a spine effect, although when you add up other anomolies, the effect may not be found exactly along the axis of warp.

Graphite is carbon fiber.
