Withdraw $15.00 and get Toms book. It'll be the best money you ever spent.

What the heck is a bank book. Havent seen one of them in years!! A check book however gets a lot of use in rod building.

Although there a several good books out there, I too would opt for Tom Kirkmans book on rod building. Because it is thorough, easy to follow, understand, and is the most current and relevant to building methods used to day.

While on this topic, which book delves into information regarding casting distance and guide placement as it pertains to types of fishing as a guide for thoughts. I don't want measurements as I do static guide placement, but information that will get me understanding rod performance would be nice.

Then you would be back to Toms book again.

There are others you will one day want in your library too though. Clemens Advanced Custom Rod Building may be outdated from a parts perspective but it still contains a lot of the more advanced decorative things that you might want to try at some point.

If I had to get just one book to get started it would be Rod Building Guide. It got me started. After that you can get Dale Clemmons' book Advanced Rod building. And there are myriad others that delve into specific techniques if you are so inclined. Almost anyone armed with the knowledge contained within those 2 books who is willing to practice the techniques therein will be able to produce a great rod.
