mudhole split grip

Has anyone used the short split grip butts from mudhole? They said you bore them out with out going all the way through, then slip it over the butt of the rod. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how did it work?

The little nub grips with the cork or eva butt piece? I use a file to ream out a little, or even use a drill bit by hand to enlarge the opening. Just go slow and make sure that the drill or reamer isn't taking out huge chunks. I will often use the tip of a reamer.

I have used several. Not bad if your butt diameter is smaller than say .42 to .43 over that you have to go real slow. The last one I did had a butt diameter over .52 was a little more challenging. I usually use a cordless drill or reamer, take it slow as stated above. You'll find that the thinner the edge gets the more it crumbles and breaks. I fixed that using my orbital sander after I got the desired inside diameter.
