Does anyone know of any companies, or people, who can do custom machining for rod parts? I am using autocad to create some butt caps and reel seat caps to connect to the hood and am hoping to get them made for fairly cheap. Any help would be great guys. Thanks! Contact Lynn Williams at BackLash tools. The link is to the left in the sponsor column.
A one-off part in limited quantities may be very expensive. ........... Re: Custom Machining Butt Caps and Reel Seat Parts?

Ryan,
Unless you're talking about large quantities, think in terms of 1000s, you won't get stuff done cheap unless you know somebody with a CNC machine that will do you a favor. I have a friend that has been in the business for over 20 years and they've done everything from car parts to soap dishes. Their standard set up fee is $500 for very basic jobs, so you're looking at $500 before you even get a part made. Good Luck, Robert Re: Custom Machining Butt Caps and Reel Seat Parts?

I have been in the machine trades for 15 years, and have had the oppertunity to use the tools here at work to make some really neat stuff. I am looking at purchasing a mini lathe to do small turning projects as you described in your post above. $1500.00 can get you into a Harbor Freight Lathe that has the ability to turn threads and pretty much anything a full size tool room lathe can offer. If you would like, maybe send me your Auto Cad file and I can see what I could do about getting you a few parts.

Steve,
Thanks a ton! I'm still trying to understand how to use AutoCAD so I don't have the designs done yet. I've got your email and will send you my files when I finish them. And maybe here someday I will be able to afford my own lathe, just not now! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
