I am looking for a Graphite 6'8"-6'10" Medium power fast taper with a light tip for cranking small to medium crankbaits,
$50 or less. Anyone know of any clearance items that will fit the blank specs?
Thanks,
Dave

Very close to your price point and well worth the little extra.

Castaway XP3 813 [www.swamplandtackle.com]

Use the Contact Us link on the site and ask for a request a personal contact to detail a complete micro set up.

Dave,
the CB843-Blend trimmed 2" at the butt will fill your bill nicely or the SB812-Blend at 6'9".

I think that is Mudholes MHX blanks. The blends are blends of different graphite, not graphite and fiberglass.

Dave -- Mike Sledden is correct about the blank series being the MHX and to what the make-up of the Blend consists of. You can click on the link that Todd provide to view the MHX blanks. Another blank to consider, since you are wanting a medium power with a fast action, is the SJ 842 MHX and trim off the butt the 2" to 4". The price of teh SJ 842 MHX is within you price range.

Look at the Batson "Crankbait" series, CB70M trimmed from the butt should work well.

Dave , the Castaway blank that Bill pointed out to you is also the blank I'd recommend. Although I'm also a Batson dealer selling Rainshadow blanks and stock all of their cranking blanks I feel that the Castaway blank fits the bill for what you're looking for. It falls in the range of the specs that you specified although it is about five or six dollars more than your budget. Another thing to consider is that you don't have to do any modifying or cutting of the blank to arrive at the length you're looking for. Normally, cutting a blank slightly changes the feel and action of the blank and the most important thing to remember that when cutting a blank is that in most cases you are voiding the warranty on that particular blank.

Please give me a call or email me if you have any other questions.

Lance

I built a XP3 813 last year and the client was very happy. He needed/wanted a under 7' to travel with and has had nothing but great things to say about the rod.

I'd build more but my typical crank rod is at least 7'6".
