I think it looks really good, of course they say there is always room for improvement. I would use it and be proud. I can't write on a flat surface and writing on a rod really drives me crazy. I think that writing on a blank makes the rod look very classy, I just wish I could do it.

Looks great to me.
But seeing how you are questioning yourself however. Try this and it might improve to a point at which you are more comfortable.
Place blank between to 2 books or boards of same thickness and about same thickness of blank. Lay out side by side with blank between.
The books/boards serve as a resting place for your hand to sit on while writing helping to improve pen control.

Thanks alot guys. This rod building thing is funny. The more I look at my work the more I panic and start "nit picking" every aspect of everything I did. I guess thats a good thing, but I've got to realize there is no such thing as perfect. At a point I think you've got to be happy with the finished product and just go with it I guess. So rather than obsessing I figured maybe I'd just solicit some reassurance....lol. Thanks.

Practice will make it even better, but I'd leave them all as is and keep keepin on.

Larry .... # 1 ... it is yours. # 2 ...it is understood that it represents the best you can do # 3 ... should be obvious to all that it took a fair amount of painstaking focus/ time / TLC to produce it # 4 ...it is a highly personal finish to an already beautiful custom rod # 5 ... it is also quite good (better than most of us can do) but above all it represents a high level of personal commitment and pride by a fine custom builder. I would most definitely want that ( even if it were not that nice) over a decal of your signiture.

It looks good to me. Wish I could do it. Thats about as custom as you can get and adds a truly custom look to a fine rod, as long as the handwriting looks good. I would use it with no hesitations. Good job.

I wonder, have you considered using a finer pen?

Often, the use of a finer tipped pen makes it easier to do an even better job.

I have no idea what you are using right now.

If you don't already use it, you might try using a fine tipped nib and quill pen from one of the art stores.

I have definately thought about that. What tip exactly would you recomend, and what kind of paint/ Ink would work the best?
Those two were done with sharpie extra fine point paint pens (and yes they come out a little thick). Do metalic ball point art pens work at all?

It looks really good. On a piece of scrap try putting a piece of 1/4" tape on and use that as a straight edge. Wright on top of it.

Yours is really nice though.
