Recommendations / source 15' 2 piece surf rod

A customer has asked me to build him a 15' two piece surf rod capable of 8 - 12 ounces of lead. Do any of the sponsors carry such an animal? Has anyone here built something like this? I've asked about something shorter (13' Rainshadow 1569F) but the customer says 15 footer.

There is a local shop here in my area that has 16' 2 piece blanks. Cut a foot off the butt... Think he wants $40, I am not sure of the make but I can find out if you like. I will even grab it and ship it if you need me to. Drop me an email.

The only 15' surf rod I've ever built was rated something like 4-8. I can't think of a single good reason why anyone would want a 15' rod with so many heavy heavers available in the 12'-13' range JMO

you might want to take a look at the Lami GSB1802MH

Walt -
I hear you on the 15' rod. Customer believes he needs it for his fishing conditions.
There are a few other "specifications" that I'm working out with the customer... sharkskin grips (can't imagine why); tangerine/brown color (ala Super Seekers); type of guides... list goes on.

15' might be tough to find and most will be glass if you do. Talon makes two Ulua blanks BCY040 4-6 oz and BCY29 6-8 but both are 14'0. These are all graphite and aren't very heavy or thick at the butt. You also can get them in a see thru red color. Other wise I can tell you how to match the Super Seeker color... with Spray cans if needed!

i believe i can get you an old push pole if you cant find anything else. it will take quite a caster to handle a 15ft heaver

The Oio Special (XS 15 MHC ) by Lamiglas is 15' and 2 piece. It is a long distance, small game rod for Hawaii.
The blank used is the GSB 180 2MH. Lure rating 4 to 7 ounces. Line rating 20 to 40#. There is also a lighter blank, the GSB 180 2M.
The GSB 180 2MH uses the GSB 150 2MH tip. We consider the 4 to 7 ounce lure rating to be accurate. I currently have both the rods and blanks on order for a tackle shop.

I would start with something like a Batson SUR1569F. Trim the tip to give you the casting weight then make up the rest by extending the butt. The trick will be to get the casting weight right. Tuning a rod to throw such a wide range (8 -12 oz.) effectively is going to be tuff.
