Stress distribution?

Good morning all I,m new to this site and rod building. I am building my first rod,I have the cork seat and fore grip in place and waiting to dry. My next step is guide placement, When I preform the stress distribution can I prop the rod parallel to the floor as I really dont have anything to hold the rod at the suggested 45 degree angle. Thanks for any answers.

Yes, just remember to change the direction of the line pull.

Should I pull the line strait to the floor or back towards the rod handle?

If you stand the rod up straight, then pulling the line back to the floor is going to "high stick" the rod. You want to maintain the direction of pull that you would have if you set the rod at 45 degrees.

If I were you, I'd set the butt on the floor and use a couple stacks of books or something to secure the butt and rest the foregrip on so that you have the rod at 45 degrees. This will be a lot easier for you in the long run.

If you will be building more rods you can make yourself a device easily out of scrap 2x4 lumber and piece of PVC pipe.
