Hi all, this is my first post. Great forum by the way.
I'm relatively new to rod building and I am about to build my first heavy rod for spinning for Giant Trevally and other offshore pelagics. Normally I only use one coat of high build finisher for ultra light rods . Now that Im taking on a more challanging rod, my Question is, should I apply a thin coat on the first over wrap before apply the 2nd wrap on the guides. Im not sure what other are doing but would like to get some feed back on the preferred method. I hope I have explained my dilema. Thanks Billy Re: double wraps - epoxy question

On very heavy duty rods that works well and creates extremely durable wrappings.

Billy,
You can either do that, or apply your first coat over the completed wraps, letting it soak in all the way to the blank, and let that dry and then apply the second coat the next day. Just make sure that the first coat is warm and thin to allow it to go all the way to the blank. Welcome to the addiction! Kevin www.anglersenvy.com Re: double wraps - epoxy question

Thanks guys.
Is it easier to do the 2nd over bind if a layer of finisher is applied on the first wrap to obtain a level surface in preparation for the 2nd overbind.. I want to make sure that my 2nd wrap doesnt become bumpy or uneven. I guess this would depend on how well I have done the first wrap. As for my second question, is NCP "A" Ok to use on 30-50lb rods or should I be safe an use "C". Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/19/2010 04:19PM by bill jov. Re: double wraps - epoxy question

Size C will be fine. You can certainly use A but you may find it difficult to wrap and pack neatly over the larger feet of the guides used on that size rod. A thin coat of epoxy makes the 2nd layer of thread easy to wrap.

Like said a coat of finish over the under wrap makes it easer to wrap over. I use either permagloss or LumiSeal on the fist wrap. They dry hard and make it easer to do the overwrap Bill - willierods.com Re: double wraps - epoxy question
