Question about silk thread

Back in the old days when I covered model airplanes with woven silk and dope, the silk would shrink. The silk fabric would stretch when wet and shrink when dry. Does the silk thread stretch and shrink like the that? If so wouldn't silk guide wraps stress the blank? I'm guessing the fly rod builders know the answers. Re: Question about silk thread

It's not wet when you wrap it, so it's not being stretched to that extent to begin with. Most thread expands a bit when you hit it with CP and then shrinks back to its original state. If you apply epoxy directly, the wrap loses a bit of tension because the thread can't shrink back once the epoxy sets. None of this should be of any real concern.

Thanks, Tom, I'm probably thinking and worrying too much.
