Steez reel seat question
Posted by: Kyle Robinson (---.cdrr.qwest.net)

I am wondering if anyone knows if this reel seat is available. It is from a Diawa steez rod. They are called air beam reel seats. The spinning rod seats are the ones I am wondering about. I do not think these rods are worth the money, but a customer likes the seat. Any possible help would be appreciated.

thanks

Kyle Robinson

No. Unless you got a hookup some where.

From what I remember, the steez rods are built on a handle kit, but I could be wrong. Might be thinking of something else.

They're not available unless you take one off a broken rod. They are two piece construction, with the blank and the reel seat/grip built as a tube extension.

Check with any shop that sells them and tell them you're after a reel seat. These are often returned to dealers once they're broken and the dealer generally doesn't have to return them to the manufacturer in order to get a sales credit from the wholesaler. So they end up with rods that are tossed in the trash. You may find one that's willing to give you the handle from a broken one. It will be up to you to get the seat off, but at least you'd have it.

Thanks guys. You reaffirmed what i thought to be the case. I think I will build the rod on another seat, then show it to him.
thanks again,

I think that the air beam seats are only used on the casting reels, I believe that the spinning rods use a Fuji VSS seat with a small foregrip locknut. You should be able to do something very close with parts that are readily available.

Mike's right, the spinning seats look very much like the VSS. That should be easy to do something similar.
