I'm restoring a 6' baitcasting rod that I've had for years,I'm using the rod mainlly for crankbaiting and would like some info on what guide sizes that I need to add to the rod.I'm not wanting to put alot of money into the rod as it will be a backup rod for now.Also can someone tell or show me what is the difference in the types of guides such as boat guides as compared to the ngl type of guides.Thanks Frank Downey Edited 1 time(s). Frank;
I think your best bet for learning about types of guides would be to go the Batsons web sight and look at all the guides and read the explanations for them. You'll get a great amount of info then what fifty replies could provide then if you have questions, I would come back to this thread and ask them. Also more info on your setup would help. What size baits you casting (3/4 or 3 oz) What size lines And what type of reels (round or low profile) Re: guild size question

On a baitcasting rod, you'll get your straightest and smoothest line path, along with the least amount of weight, using just a couple of sizes of guides.

With the round reel (just because of the height of the reel’s spool), I would suggest starting with a 10mm double ft guide, 6mm, then 4mm's or smaller for the rest.
If you were using a low profile reel then I would suggest a 6mm double ft guide them 4mm or smaller for the rest of your guides. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
