First off. This is a great resource for everyone involved in rod building. I am fairly new to the industry other than fishing. I have been working on a butt wrap with a light colored base wrap. The problem I have created for myself is how to mark the indexes on the base wrap (I used pencil) and then be able to remove them when the wrap is finished. The base wrap will be showing through. Thanks for the help. Re: marking index marks

Make the marks on a length of white thread. Tape it in place, one one top, one on bottom. Make your first few passes and once you have things locked down, snip the alignment threads and simply pull them out from under your cross wrap threads.

Thanks for the tip. It worked great and I'm off and wrapping the wrap. The pencil worked but it did not come off the thread. The lighter colored marking thread worked great. It only costs pennies more to be first class Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
