Anybody Used the 2pc MHX 842 yet? ....So that's a NO, then?

I'm looking to build a truck rod for my father-in-law that he can keep behind his pickup seat (in a tube, of course)

So, it will have to be a 2pc. Spinning rod, on the lighter side of things.
He likes to use smaller jigs and tubes, with live bait leeches on the equivalent of a drop shot rig.

Local fish are mainly walleyes and crappie, but he loves to find the occasional smallmouth that are becoming more prevalent.

I'd love to try the new MHX line and I'd like to hear if anyone's used the S842-2 for a project. Does it have the back for an occasional smallie? Does it have the tip to feel a walleye nibbling?

Thanks for your input!

These blanks are fairly new and not every model has been bought and built by a large number of people yet. The reviews on other models in the line seem to be positive. You may just have to be one of the first to give this particular model a shot.

Scott -- As Tom stated, those blanks are fairly new. We have sold lots of that model, but maybe not to anyone that views this board. They have been well received. That model blank should work perfectly for what you are wanting to use it for.

I have not built that model but can tell you I was very sceptical when I heard comparible to Gloomis. I recently ordered one of these blanks and WOW! Was I surprised. For the money I dont think these blanks can be beat. In fact I have seen more expensive blanks that I like less than these. Mudhole did real good here in my opinion. I dont think you will be disappointed.

Scott, I've built a handful as trout rods and they work great for stream fishing. CCS test give me an ERN=8.95/67, you could cast 1/4 oz easily, maybe 5/16 oz. The action is good for live bait as well as spinners. They're sensitive enough for light trout bites but have just enough power to handle 20" browns and rainbows, so they should be okay with smallies. Go with micro guides.
