So I finish two rods in the last couple of days. In one rod the finish came out nice, on the other the finish came out bumpy and in some places I the finish didn't cover the threads(spotty). I think is some kind of contamination. I washed my hand every time before handle the thread. and did my best to try to keep contamination to a minimum. I really don't know what I did wrong. How can I salvage this job? Most importune what is causing this. I will try to get some picture and posted them here. I used CP and high build flex coat. Your input is appreciated. The bumpy finish is caused by too much finish being applied. The tutorial in the library here is EXCELLENT. Since I began using the methods it recommends, I have not had a single bad finish. Before, it was hit or miss.
As for spots where there appears to be little or no finish, a 2nd coat should fix it. But read the tutorial. It will mane all the difference in the world. [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Finish question

It sounds like the spots where there is no finish might be "fisheyes" which result from some kind of contamination. On numerous occasions I have solved this problem by placing a drop of Zinsser Bulls Eye Seal Coat dewaxed shellac on the spot, and then sanding level before adding the next coat of epoxy. Shellc is the gold standard of sealers, and the dewaxed version permits adhesion of the expoxy. Other have suggested using color preserver, but I an sticking with shellac.
