Rainshadow Switch Rod blank - IF 1087-4

I have a neighbor that wants me to build a spey rod for steelhead. He wants to use this blank, rather than a longer, traditional spey blank. I have not built one of these rods before. Can you give me some direction in regards to handle length in front and behind the reel seat, or placement of the reel seat? What guides do you typically use? Any information would be appreciated. Are there any articles regarding the construction of the spey rod?

Thank your for your time and assistance!

Best regards......George

George,
On my 10'^ switch rods I use 4.75" lower grip - total length w/ reelseat = 17.25"
On my 11' switch rods I use same 4.75" lower grip and total lenget is 17.75"

I have built with either REC recoils all the way (s/f for runners) and recoil tip-top - OR - Fuji T1SVGG16U, 12U, T1GG10U S/F and REC recoil s/f runners and REC recoil tip-top the rest of the way.
There is an article somewhere on the web re switch rod building by Bob Meiser but I am sure it is dated. Bob has modified his designs quite a bit over the years. Go to his web site and see pics.
He is very approachable - so you can call him also

Thanks, Herb! That really helps. I build bass rods almost exclusively, so this is new territory for me. I'll look up Bob on-line and perhaps give him a call if I have further questions.

Once again, thank you for your assistance!

Hey George!
Someone has that very blank listed for sale on the Buy/Sell page.

George,
Batson makes a lower and upper grip designed for that blank. Check out their web site. I build one this year with that grip and their window reel seat with a laser engraved fish,as per Karry Batsons suggestion. Very nice!
