Trying to decide between Pac Bay SF fly Guides and the Snake guides. Any reason to use the snake guide over the S.F?
Thanks Jeff Re: Fly rod guides

If you're going with Pacific Bay anyway, I would take a very hard look at the Minima 4 fly rod guides.

The guides themselves weigh close enough to the same that this is not a factor.
The main benefit of the single-foot snakes is that you have only one wrap of thread and epoxy vs. two per guide. Reduced weight out on the front of the rod, improves response. Walt Re: Fly rod guides

I second Tom's suggestion for using Minima's. Now that I've discovered these, I don't think I'll use anything else on another freshwater flyrod again. Light weight and actually somewhat elegant looking. Re: Fly rod guides

Okay I am going to go with the Minima's.
For referance I looked at the Batson spacing chart. I will be using 2p. 8.6ft blanks and they go from a 12 stripper right down to a 4 running guide. Is it typical on a flyrod to jump down in guide size that quick. I would have guessed a 12 -8 (or so)-then the final running guides and in this case size 4 as that is the smallest available in the Minima guides. I know I know but these will be my first fly-rods. Be sure that the guides you choose will pass any knots, connections or loops that you may use! Re: Fly rod guides

So, the point of using the single foot guides is to reduce weight by eliminating the need for additional wraps/epoxy. That is assuming that the two types are similar in weight. Are there any other advantages to using one or the other? It seems that knot clearance is improved with the snakes, but I guess the line would have to go through at an angle, which it woulden't be........ Guess I'll have to build one of each and find out hahahahahah more rods!!!! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
