I almost never use CP, but I have a customer that I will have to in order to get the color he wants. This is an X-Heavy musky rod, and will be used with mostly 4-8 oz. baits. Just a little concerned about wrap strength on the guides, if I use CP.
Does any one else use CP on heavy application rods like this, and does it work OK? Thanks, Marc Re: Using CP on a muskie rod

Marc:
I use CP on everything from 4 lb. ultra lights to 80 lb. Alaskan Halibut rods to 100lb. tuna rods. Never had a problem and never thought twice about it. I have always used the Flex Coat CP with my AFTCOTE epoxy. The only time I think it might matter would be if you were looking for a darker translucent finish, like on a fly rod for instance. I us it on Muskie as well as salmon, steelhead, walleye trolling and downrigger rods with no problems. I've never seen any reason not to Not saying it's never been done but I've never seen a guide damaged by a fish, only by people, rod lockers and gunwales/rails Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! We use it a lot, no problems. We like the U-40 color loc, and/or Diamonite. They both work, no problems. We them use a LS Supreme on top of that.

CP does not create inherently weak guide wraps. Go ahead and use it, your wraps will be fine.
