Gentlemen, I'm looking for some nice purple feathers for an inlay on one of my rods that I'm going to build. Any information on where I could find some would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Terry

Do a search here and if that doesn't work try any local craft stores, test them for color fast before you put them on any thing important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Syskiyou Aviary used to be a sponsor here and they are still in business. They carry a wide range of exotic feathers with amazing colors. Anglers workshop has a decent supply of feathers used for fly tying that will also work for inlays on rods.

The craft store feathers are usually pretty webby, more like marabou but some can be gleaned from there. Fly tying supply stores and ones that specialize in carrying materials for presentation and Atlantic Salmon flies are also a good source.

Lot's of other info here if you search on feather inlays.

Terry gave you your best source. Do a search for "Classic Featherwing Atlantic Salmon Fly Tying" You cant get the old victorian era feathers but there are lots of substitutes. I bought a very nice book on classic featherwing patterns and it gives you a great reference for matching up colours and patterns.

I would second Syskiyou Aviary. I got some feathers from them a couple months ago. I called and talked to them told them what I was looking for. They sent me an envelope with 8 or 10 different types of feathers, all cleaned and labeled. There pricing was very good, I got to pick and choose what I wanted and paid only for that and shipped the rest back. (I kept all of them, LOL!)

I got some grays pheasant feathers from Syskiyou Aviary that the eyes had a purple color to them. If you can't find any thing else I could part with a couple if you need them. Send me an email at sgtwink@hotmail.com if you would like some.

Thanks for the response. I emailed Kate and I think she can help me out. Mike, thanks for the offer any way.
