As a follow up to Chris's question concering epoxy, what dryer speed is preferred with Hi Build vs Lite epoxy?

Dryer speed really doesn't matter. You'll find people hand turning and using motors up to 200rpm or more. I use a 6-7 rpm motor for both types. I used to hand turn and got tired of having to watch and turna 1/4 to 1/2 turn every 10 or 15 minutes for several hours. I found an old rotisserie and made a chuck for it. It is the right speed for me to apply the finish. Once applied check for bubbles and walk away let it turn. Finishes come out looking great.

18RPM will work with about any epoxy out there.

If you're using a very thin finish, some of the very slow turning motors may not work as well as the ones that turn at higher RPM.

I agree,
I don't think that the speed matters much - as long as it is faster than 5 rpm and slower than 20 rpm.
I like to apply the finish on a quick rotating stand - about 50-300 rpm. Then, after getting it on with clean edges, transfer it to the 6 rpm dryer for drying overnight.

Many of the fellows around here use the identical procedure for a variety of finishes.

Take care
Roger

I use Flexcote Hi-build and my dryer motor is only 2 RPM and have had absolutely no issues at all.

Never used anything faster than 16-18 rpm and as slow as 3/4 rpm. All have worked well. I don't think any speed will negate the effects of having applied the wrong amount of finish
