Help with marbling

Hi guys, I was wondering if any one could help me out with Marbling this will be my first attempt at it. I was going through some pictures and my son saw a rod with flames on it and, now he wants it and will not except no for an answer. So I guess it is time I branch out and learn something new. Any help would be great I am planning on getting modle paints to start with, but this is as far as I have got so far.
I read that you mix the color into the flox coat is this correct or can you do this with out putting the color in the flex coat instead just put it directly on the rod and flex coat over it later. Again any info would be useful thanks guys.

If you can apply finish, then you can be succesful with marbling. Just mix some pigment with some finish and go to town with it.

I just finished this rod with marbeling. The lady had it built for her fisherman dad who is hard to buy for. Apparently he and his fishing buddies communicate via CB radio and his handle is Nova. She asked that I incorporate some sort of supernova/galactic theme and e-mailed some pictures for inspiration. So I figured I woiuld marble it. I found some superfine glitter in various colors. This stuff is so fine its like sand only bright and sparkly. I sprinkled a little purple and some silver into it. The result is very close to one of the pictures that she sent:
