Guide Sizes?

I'm going to be building a 9' 4 wt rod and I want to use SF Nanolite Ring Locks (I have to take advantage of Bingham's sale!). The guide spacing calculator calls for : 3- 5's, 3-5.5's, 2- 6's, 1- 7 and a 10 stripper. I'll probably go with a size 8 tamer, also.

First off, the guides I'll be using don't come in 5.5, so I figured on 5-5's and 3- 6's. But the real problem in my eyes is that those sizes for a ringed insert guide seem to be too small! Any suggestions or ideas? Am I correct as to the smallish guide sizes?

Thanks.

John

I would go with all the same size after the stripper and tamer (if used) The smallest that will easily pass your knots/connectors. No need for all those different sizes

If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!

If the guides you want come in a size 5, then I would so something like this - 12 - 8 and then 5's the rest of the way out. You can go back and install a size 8 tamer guide between those first two and at a point that is about 4 inches past the stripping guide, the #12.
