Surf fishing rod - for south Florida?

I have a client that is headed south for the winter and intends to spend a bit of time on the south Florida coast and would like to do some shore fishing.

Since I have 0 experience with ocean surf rods, any ideas recommendations for rod model, length and power, as well as any suitable reels for this use on this coast?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and recommendations.

Find out where he is going to fish. Then do a Google search on that area and get an Idea of what they use. Good starting place. Then of course ask him what he wants. If he knows ??

The two key things for surf rods are species sought, and method of fishing. "Surf rod" means about as much as "bass rod" - there are just so many different ways to ply the surf. A 13-foot 8-n-bait Hatteras Heaver is a surf rod, but so too is a light 7-foot job used to throw small stuff (bucktails, rubber, etc.) to small fish in the wash. Find out what he's going to be doing, and then it should be pretty easy.
