Hello, I am new to this site and a novice to rod building, my question is about the yellow glass Fenwick rod blanks. If a person had access to these blanks, which blank would be better for a 7' or 7'6" casting rod. I live in SE Texas, so I fish in the bay, marsh, and wade the beach for reds, specs. and flounder. I have plenty of rods, but it would cool to have a new/old custom rod. Any info would be helpful, thanks

Nothing at all wrong with them, but compared to even the modestly priced graphite blanks available these days, you'll find them a bit heavy and not nearly as responsive. Are you sure you want to go that route when you can do so much better for not very much money?

I had a guy drop off one of the old school yellow Fenwicks, 7'6, I think teh model is FP908. The blank only weighs 4.8oz, much to my surprise as I assumed galss rods were really heavy. IT's not my style of blank, but for certain types of fishing with braided line it is VERY difficult to find a graphite rod that compares. SOme composites do, but graphite is often too stiff and recovers too fast and pulls a lot of hooks. Again, it's really a niche thing, but if that's what you want I don't see why not.

Do you have ccess to those old blanks? I know a few people wanted one just like the one this guygave me, I have no idea where to find them though.

Although longer than 7 1/2 ft you might look at an SH962. It has the light tip you'll need
yet plenty of backbone.

No, I do not have a scource for these blanks, but if I did, I need some direction on what to get. I really appreiate all the information. This is a very informative site.

Do you know where to get one of those? ;o) Those are great blanks and can be trimmed from the tip and/or butt to get what he is looking for as far as action. Good for up to #15 line or maybe just to #12. That blank would be sweet for throwing live shrimp and a float or jigs n cranks. Super nice for flylining small dines or chovies too! How is the Apogee build coming along?

I know someone who has (2) SH962 if my Dad hasn't claimed them yet and I built one of the 2pc SH962's for my brother a few years ago. It happens to be here in my shop awaiting a guide repair.

Not ready to start the Apogee yet but soon!
