Question on Casting Competition

So.....I take a 6' 6" rod blank and by the time I add a butt cap and tip top the little bit of overhang on each puts me at 6' 6&1/4". Am I disqualified? What is the fudge amount for the little overhangs like tops and caps?

You would be disqualified.

If I say 6'6", but allow "fudging" and let you in at 6 feet 6&1/4 inches, what about the guy who brings a rod that's 6 feet 6&3/8 inches? Or the guy with a rod that comes out to 6 feet 6&1/2 inches. Where does that sort of thing end? What is the limit to how long a 6 feet 6 inch rod can be? Pegging it at exactly 6 feet and 6 inches will eliminate the need to "fudge" or argue over anything.

It shouldn't be a problem to trim just enough from your 6'6" rod blank to allow for any slight additional length created by the butt cap or tiptop. In fact, if I were entering a rod, I'm make sure mine came in at a total length of 6 feet, 5&15/16 inches. That way, there'd be no question that I was within the limit.

One more thing - better measure your rod blank before you start. Just because it's spec'd at 6 feet 6 inches doesn't mean it's exactly that long. It may be a tad short, or it may be a tad longer.
