I've often wondered about the longevity of a spiral wrapped TWO PIECE bait casting rod blank that is slow spiraled concerning time and wear. Could the rods 2pc connection wear over time and cause the 2pc's to spin in that area?

Duane, have you ever managed to break your line by casting too heavy a weight on too light a line? Well I have. It was with an abu 6500, 15# test and maybe three ounces. The surf casting guys use a rule of thumb....one ounce per ten pounds of line strength so they all use shock leaders.

Now think about the tip in relationship to the reel when casting near hard enough to break the line. Most cast a bait caster with the reel sideways and the blank vertical. That would make the tip twisted 90 degrees. Did that ever cause your 2 pc. rods to spin/twist?

I have never broke my line from setting a hook too hard or anything of the sort so I never put as much twisting force on my rod as when I am casting (or so I think). Plus I try to keep my rod aligned with the fish

The connection shouldn't slip and unless it slips, there is no wear in that regard.

i have a 2 piece rod thats o i'd guess 20-25 years old and over an a 6 to 8 hrs of fishing the top section will over that period of time twist the top section with the eyes on the bottom from (6pm) to the left (9pm) clockwise.

in saying that i also notice that i do "wip" it when i cast right handed but what i did was take the top section and got some clear fingernail polish and applied a single thin coat on the top section where its inserted into the ferrule to add just a little extra width to make it fit a bit more snug.

NOTE, if you do what i suggested make sure its dry -way dry before inserting it into ther bottom section or you will wind up with a 1 piece rod, heheh
