Has anyone tried Harbor Freight's 40" lathe? It looks pretty nice and is on sale for $79. What else do you need to buy in order to make it functional? Re: lathe

Haven't tried it but if its like most lathes and you want to turn seat inserts and the like you'll need a live center if it doesn't have one and a jacobs chuck for the tailstock so you can bore a hole through it after it is turned. Beyond that it's just a matter of adding whatever 'toys' you want! Re: lathe

Larry, In the issue of RodMaker that is mailing today, we have the first in an in-depth series of articles on making your own reel seat inserts. The first article, by Andy Dear, is on choosing a lathe and the necessary accessories. It is very informative and you will get a lot out of it. Andy did a great job covering all the basics. ........................ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
