Hi all
I'm still trying to get a label to come out well on a couple rods first times trying. I have read the tutorials on decals on the couple I did the epoxy did not level well it had hills and valleys like something repelled it in some areas 2 different kinds measured correctly 2 diff. rods label was sprayed with Krylon crystal clear. any suggestions.

Thinking about going back to writing inscription.

I think you talking about fisheyes. Sounds like contamination from oil or silcone. I let my decals dry thoroughly after printing, then after spraying before applying the decal. I only touch the ends that will be covered with thread when applying the decal. I use long lengthwise strokes to apply the epoxy.

Sometimes, as the epoxy is setting up, I dab a drop or two on the fisheye and it will hold.

Also, I'd switch to Krylon Fixatif. I had similar issues before switching.

Mike,

Check your email. I have been in the rod decal business for over 15 years. I think I can help you through things.

use several thin coats of epoxy rather than 1 normal (hi build) coat.
i always got wavey/uneven finish when i used too much epoxy over the label. The surface of the label seems to magnify the affects when compared to doing the same over thread (i'm guessing) because some of the excess is absorbed into the thread.

Regards,
-Justin

What finish are you using. How hot is it in you place. In cooler places the finish will level better !!! And a thinner finish will level better, or a thick finish thinned out. You need a flat surface. Did you CP the decal after putting it on. One - two coats. Then apply finish.
