im planning a heavy spinning rod build and im trying to decide what type of guide to use. my largest guide needs to be 50mm so i know that limits my choices. casting distance and durability are my two priorities. what is the difference between all purpose guides and casting guides? which type would you reccommend for this type of rod? thanks, mark Re: All Purpose Guides vs. Casting Guides?

If you go back a couple decades, there weren't separate guide types for spinning and casting. One size fit all. And that's still true to some extent today - the line isn't concerned with the frame style.
But since you can get extra height with specialty spinning frames, I'd use them. Anything in the high frame SVSG (or similar) type spinning guide, reduced quickly to a choke guide and then low frame casting guides for the choker and running guides would be my choice. Remember, there is no reason not to mix and match guide frames and styles to get what you want. As long as the frame color and ring type are the same, everything will look fine. .................. I would use the 2 foot "V" frame from Batson.
BVDLG, black with Charcoal "H" ring. Here is a link; [www.schneidersrods.com] We keep these in stock. Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: All Purpose Guides vs. Casting Guides?
