All,
I was just going through some old pictures on the photo section and came across this hammer. Does any one have any further information as to that this hammer is? What it is used for? Where it may be obtained? [www.rodbuilding.org] Thanks much Roger Re: What hammer is this one?

It's a Japanese framing hammer. They work much better than they look. I bend a lot less nails than I do with a Vaughn. Here's their site, they have a "where to buy" link --> [www.sharkcorp.com] Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: What hammer is this one?

Hmm....I wonder what the PHYSICS is behind that hammer that makes them bend less nails. Is it lighter and thus allow more control?

I think it's simply that the striking face is further from the handle than a domestic hammer. That works for me, but drives other people (like the ones who have swung a Vaughn for years) nuts. Those first caught on in the U.S. with a lighter version that Electricians liked because they could drive nails into electrical boxes w/o hitting the handle on the edge of the box.
The claw is shaped like that so that you can pull a 16d nail in one pull w/o having to go back and re-grip it. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: What hammer is this one?

I think you'll also notice that the striking head is flat while us style hammers have a relieved (beveled) outer edge Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
