Silk for ferrule wraps?

I've used white Pearsall's Gossamer silk thread in the past for creating transluscent guide wraps on a few UL rods but have always been a little gunshy about using it to wrap the ferrules, as I heard of an incident or two where the ferrule split. Just curious if anyone here has tried it?

If you make the wrap snug and get the thread down close to the edge, it won't be an issue.

I wouldn't use Gossamer for that, mostly because I don't like it and find that YLI 100 is not much bigger but a lot easier to work with. If you want the best clear wraps, get it in Natural.

John, are you refering to the #239 Natural White? Yeah, I've shyed away from using sewing thread ever since I unknowingly used some that was treated with some sort of silicone or teflon. From what I understand though, most 100% silk threads aren't coated ...is the YLI?

Also, if you don't mind, how small is 100wt in comparison to size-A.
