Just got my NFC blank today, A Mag Bass 6.6 R7/B19. Looks and feels like a nice blank, Except I'm not wild about the flat finish, Or should I say unfinished. Cant wait to build it for the registry program Re: NFC blank arrived

I think they're aiming for the segment of the market that's after all out performance - an unfinished blank is a lighter blank and you do reap some small measure of additional efficiency there.

Rods are meant to be fished! We're steelhead fishermen, and we like a rod with some bait and fish slime on the handle.
So please, spend some time with the rod before you send it in. We'd appreciate your thoughts on its performance. Jon Re: NFC blank arrived

Do you have any Ice Rod blanks ready? Since it's pretty cold in Interior Alaska, can't cast much! ) Re: NFC blank arrived

Bill -
If the "unfinished look" is something you really don't like you could wipe it down with a thin coat of Permaglos (and a coffee filter). I don't think that would automatically eliminate you from contention with NFC - in fact it might improve your chances of selection by showing what can be done. Perhaps Jon will respond to confirm/negate this approach. I doubt a quick wipe with Permaglos will detract from performance. Re: NFC blank arrived

The blank is yours to build as you wish. Artistic touches like special paint or fancy wraps aren't necessary for a pass grade, but this will be in the showcase, so if you want to show your stuff, feel free!
We expect to get a mix of spin, casting and fly (when available). We have no preference, it's your showcase. (Note: casting probably ships and travels better). Hope this helps. We really appreciate your guys input and questions... well, we appreciate most of the questions:) Re: NFC blank arrived

Hi guys,
On the subject of using a coffee filter, I recently tried it on a new rod blank I am working on for a friend. The finish turned out not very good in my opinion and I had to refinish it again. I was using permagloss. What I DO find better than using a coffee filter is a piece of nylon panty hose with the permagloss on it, then wiped quickly the entire length of the blank or the work area of the rod. Guys, the panty hose trick is old bamboo news and works great. Try it out for yourself. I like it much better and it goes on glass smoothe and dries the same way ... glass smoothe. Catch some fish for me...I hardly get to go fishing enough anymore these days! Randall Wilinski Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
