Roller guide question

I have a rod for repair and the customer wants the first guide from the bottom of the rod to be a roller guide,
replacing a boat guide. The rest of the guides will be boat guide replacements for the former old boat boat guides and the top is already a roller top. Does the roller guide at the bottom have to be one of the large ones with double rollers or can I use a smaller one-roller running guide as that first guide. My problem is one of size-The double roller has guide feet that extend far over the former wrap and the single roller I have fits the former wrap perfectly. Not looking to save money, but will the one-roller guide actually function properly in that placement? Thanks for any input. David Spence, Cape Custom Rods, Beaufort, NC. Re: Roller guide question

It depends on the reel he's going to use. If the reel is high enough that the line is going to rub on the top of the frame, then you'll want a double roller there to contain the line until the rod is heavily loaded and/or the line on the spool is diminished.
You may be able to get by with a high frame, single roller. Just make sure you don't give him something that is going to cause line damage by virtue of the line rubbing the top of the guide frame. ................... Re: Roller guide question
