I am in the process of redoing my shop and want to locate a good source for reasonably priced L braces to mount my workbench.
I want to hang the workbench from the wall with L braces and have 100% wide open area under the full length of the bench. Any folks have a good source for these brackets to screw to the studs to mount the workbench. I currently have a work bench with multiple legs supporting the bench and the legs are constantly interferring with my ability to quickly and easily move from one end of the bench to the other during a wrapping session. Thanks for any sources and help. Roger Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

Roger,
Here is a link to some heavy duty bracket (1/2 ton per pair) they come in white or black. You might also check at your local home/hardware center to see what they have. [woodworker.Com] Just for though, most of the time the brackets will not fail it will be the screws pulling out of the wall so put a little thought into mounting the brackets to the wall. I know this from experience. Hope this helps Lynn Williams Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

Howdy Roger,
Try the normal Home building centers like . 1 ) Home Depot 2) Menards 3) Lowes . Some Hardware stores will carry them also in different sizes . You may also want to concider using a couple of straight straps for behind your work bench also Roger . Heath Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

Roger, you might do better using angle iron. Most of the L brackets at the home stores are lacking in strength. You can keep the angle iron as long as you want or cut into little brackets. If you'd rather buy a L-bracket but want something more strudy....try the ones made for uni-strut....try an electrical supply house. Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

I found the Mendard's variety to be lacking. I ordered some very strong ones from McMaster-Carr, and they are great. I have two 8' benches mounted with them, one on each end and one in the middle. They have a large variety to fit a lot of needs. Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

Marc,
I looked in the McMaster-Carr catalog and am having issues to locate the needed material. Do you have any information on the search criteria for the catalog? Thanks much Roger Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

Try part# 33125T34. That is the one for unistrut. Or just type in "angle bracket" in the search box for lighter duty ones. Re: L Brace to mount work bench from Wall??

I used to own a countertop business, and we installed a lot of commercial projects, where the customer wanted a completely open area under a work space (countertops). Think doctors, dentist offices, etc, We tried a lot of brackets, and the very best were made by A &M Hardware from Manheim PA. You can find them on the web. They are not all that expensive. Space them 30" max and one on each end
The trick to installing long heavy tops with no floor support is to fabricate a 2" x 2" L shaped bracket from plywood, and secure it along the back wall so that the countertop sits on it - the length of the countertop. You need to screw through the L into the countertop from underneath to really secure it My rod bulding work bench is a laminate countertops that is 30" deep and 10 feet long. (I kinda overdid it). If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Regards Bert Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
