Using a guide as a tip

I’m building a spinning rod using 4.5 ring-size guides as the choke and running guides. I plan to use a 4.5 guide for the tip. Do I just wind on the guide using locking wraps or is there something special I need to do make sure the guide is secure?
Thanks. Re: Using a guide as a tip

John, Mudhole sells braced Micro tips with a 4.5 ring. If their tube will fit your blank why not use one of them instead of a guide? J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Using a guide as a tip

If you do use a guide as a tiptop, just wrap it on and use a Forhan Locking Wrap for additional security.

I've built quite a few rods for my own use with guides as tip tops. Most of them work very well but I have found that wet ten pound braided line has a tendency to catch on the ring of the unbraced tip top. Braced tip tops give the ring a "ramp" for the line to slide off. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
