Boring a pistol grip

Has anyone come up with a good way to bore a preformed cork pistol grip? I want it to follow the bore that's there and be perfectly concentric. I don't have a wood turning lathe per se but I do have a Pac Bay rod wrapper. I normally eyeball it on my drill press but that never works out quite like I want it. I feel like perfection is an absolute must in the handle as this is what fisherman look at the most, especially when the fish ain't bitin.

Again, this is a PISTOL grip.

Thanks,
Greg Marshall

Flex Coat pilot bit. Try the reverse bit.

Greg,

If you have a way to chuck up a drill bit in your Pac Bay wrapper, go to Backlash Tolls and buy one of their Pistol Grip devices and place you grip in that, and chuck that up in your wrapper then drill away. It will center it perfectly.

Would boring through and placing a plug in the hole work for you?

good workworkers can plug holes that are barely visible, if at all - I'm sure cork could be done with equally good results.

On another note - I have yet to find really good quality preformed pistol grips. Maybe I am picky.

RodMaker Volume 9 #4 - you can easily make your own if you don't mind spending about 30 minutes doing so.
