I have a customer wanting a crankbait rod for small to medium depth cranks and I'm looking for some suggestions. More than likely this guy will change his mind on what type of rod he wants since he has 4 times already but I told him i would see what was there so here I am. I'm looking at one of the MHX blanks (CB843-blend) but I'm hoping for a few other suggestions to put in front of him. Price really won't be much of an issue but I would still like to stay under the $130 mark for the blank preferably under $100 but bumping him to $130 won't be a problem if necessary. It has to at least be 6'9" and no longer than 7' and all graphite. Thanks for any help. David Page E-town, KY. Re: Small to medium crank blank

If you act quickly you can still get one of the last G Loomis Bronze blanks in the CB843...It is great for cranks and spinnerbaits. If built with micros it is a hard to beat blank in my opinion. Jason Kesckes. Aint no fish'n like bass fish'n Re: Small to medium crank blank

Check out the Castaway 843P, Batson CB70M and the Mud Hole ISP703. I build a bunch of crankbait rods and have been happy with these 3. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 10/24/2009 03:04PM by Robert Russell. Re: Small to medium crank blank

David I have built on the Castaway 843P and the Batson CB70M for Crankbaits and they are both super Crankin rods. I really like the Castaway 843P. I will guess the MHX CB843- blend will make a great Crankin rod also. The Blend is always good in a Crankin rod. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Small to medium crank blank

I really like the St Croix SC3 series for the purpose ... 3C70MM and 3C70MHM. Re: Small to medium crank blank

I agree with Jim. The St. Croix SC3 series is hard to beat for affordability and action. I've got a backlog of return customers wanting the 3C70MM for throwing crankbaits. I've even used the 3C66MM and extended it to make a 7 footer. It is a dream.

My personal choice for that particular application is a 3C66MM or 3C70MM. But keep in mind, I like a crankbait blank that bends really deep.
My buddies who like a more powerful rod go for the Loomis CB843. Around here, the CB843 is the rod of choice for wiggle-warts (and other similar sizes of cranks). Re: Small to medium crank blank

Check with Karen at Bingham Enterprises, she now has a Bingham line of blanks that may have comparable "values' to the Loomis models. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
