Parachute / 550 cord for grip?

Has anyone used parachute cord (550 cord) for grips? What method works best for you? I need to wrap one up over a cork grip.

Hi, Jim,
I put a photo in the miscellaneous section of a gaff I made with a parachute cord wrap, flexcoat hi-build, about (4) coats.
The cord just kept absorbing epoxy!

Parachute cord is actually a 2 part cord - there is an outer sheath over an interior cord. Frankly, I don't care for it as a handle material and greatly prefer regular nylon cord/twine for that purpose.

If you choose to use the parachute cord, prepare to put a good amount of whatever you use for finish on/in it.

I've done a few with parachute cord , and have even painted over the cord , the cord will soak up the color , it will also make it stiff for a coat of epoxy , play with it , it can be fun ! I have found parachute cord in colors & even camo ! Also I found if you spray whatever you are wrapping with spray adhesive it don't slide around as much . Larry

I have done it with polyester and nylon. The polyester if cleared will have to be CPed to keep any color. Two - three good coats I spread a thin coat of rod bond on what ever it was going on. Then when dry trimmed the ends and caped them. Have also tinted white nylon with thinned finish tinted. Like said. Play with it on some dowels or scrap pieces. [www.rodbuilding.org]

I built a spinning rod with 550 cord inset and wrapped on the rear grip of an EVA split grip. 5 min epoxy spread lightly on the EVA and the 550 cord wrapped tightly. No other finish added. It does absorb some rainwater and splash but the grip works well even when wet and it doesn't slide around at all. I'm sure something similar would work as well on cork.

Thank you everyone for your input. I played around last night with it and I think I may have it. Basically I have done it like Jim Hicks but on cork.
